Business Developer in London

The mission of the Business Developer is to promote the Hutong School brand and its various programs as widely as possible within London.

Daily tasks:

You will work together with and be communicating frequently with the International Relations Manager, and reporting monthly, on the following areas, including but not limited to:

Offline Marketing for Local Chinese language training
– Look for corporate and individual leads for Chinese language training in London and help with the offline initiatives which need to be implemented locally in order to promote the school in London

Offline Marketing for China Programs
– Implement offline marketing strategies per program:

o Internship Program

• Liaise with University colleges or other educational institutions where internships are a compulsory or recommended part of the programs
• Give presentations to international offices/career services
• Give presentations to students during international days/study abroad fairs
• Distribute posters/flyers at key schools and locations in London

o Intensive Chinese Program

• Build up a network of Chinese teachers in London
• Liaise with Confucius Institute, Chinese Chambers of Commerce, China friendship organizations etc… and attend China related events
• Explore partnership opportunities with local language schools focusing on Chinese language education
• Distribute posters/flyers at events likely to attract many Chinese learners (e.g. HSK exams)

o Tailor-made group programs

• Actively search for leads for group programs to China for language and culture travel (including students of high school or primary school age)

– Appoint brand ambassadors (usually alumni) in the UK and manage the network
– Look for travel agents and organizations which can sell our programs to individuals and groups
– Look for corporate and individual leads for Chinese language training in Beijing/Shanghai, and optional pre-departure training in the home country

Institutional Account management
– After the initial outreach, a number of key accounts (usually schools who send students) require account management to consolidate and further grow these accounts through regular follow-up meetings, information about students in China, adequate communication in case issues arise, etc…

Online Marketing
– Identify online resources in your native tongue, or with high popularity in your home country
– Assess different ways to grow website traffic through those channels (free listings, paid listings, banner ads, viral content, …)

Public Relations
– Identify opportunities to get press coverage both on local scale (student magazines, school magazines) as well as on national level (journalists of your country covering China in national or regional publications). Articles can be about China, internships in China, Chinese language, your personal China experience, etc…
– Send out our regular press releases in your country about new developments at Hutong School
– Liaise with Chinese government officials of the Chinese embassy and Confucius institute by participating in networking receptions organized by the Chinese Embassy

Requirements:

– Minimum Bachelor Degree
– Minimum 2-3 years of working experience
– Strong interest in business development, meeting new people, outreach efforts
– Interest in Education/Training/Communication/Travel Industry/Human Resources
– Passionate about China and/or Chinese language
– Intermediate knowledge about the Chinese language is preferred, and minimum of 1 year China-based experience (or several shorter experiences)
– Fluent spoken and written English, and excellent communication skills in your native language
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
– Organized, customer-orientated, team player
– Good knowledge of Microsoft Office

Following years of rapid expansion in China, Hutong School also started offering Chinese classes abroad, with a first branch in Brussels, which opened in October 2013.  In 2014, we aim to further internationalize the Hutong School brand by increasing our presence in Europe and North America, and also plan to start offering internships in Chengdu in the course of 2014.
